A cartilaginous joint that is structurally amphiarthrotic in nature allows for slight movements in response to twisting and compression. The main function of cartilaginous joint is to permit to “give” upon these movements to prevent injury.
The symphyses refer to the joining of fibrocartilaginous pads and bones. These are also amphiarthrotic and flexible in nature allowing for slight movements in response to twisting and compression. The symphysis pubis and intervertebral disc joint allow for slight movements.
The synchondroses are also cartilaginous joints which have multiple hyalinecartilage layers arranged in between the adjoining bones.
