Answer

The are infinitely many prime numbers.

Step-by-step explanation:

(a)The fact that there are infinitely many prime numbers is well known from the times of Euclid. In his book, The Elements, there is the following proof:

Suppose that there are finitely many prime numbers. Let's order them in a sequence p_{1}, p_{2},..., p_{n}. Define the number

P=p_{1}\cdot p_{2}\cdot p_{3} \cdots p_{n}+1.

The fundamental theorem of arithmetic establishes that every natural number greater that 1 is prime or the product of prime numbers. Observe that P is not the product of prime numbers because the remainder when we divide by a prime number is one. Then P must be a prime number, and this is a new primer number, which contradicts the hypothesis that p_{1},...,p_{n} are all the prime numbers. Then there are infinitely many prime numbers.

(b) Observe that the set  of prime numbers is an infinite subset of natural numbers. Then we can order the prime numbers in a infinite sequence p_{1},p_{2}, p_{3},.... Then there is a one-to-one correspondence between prime numbers and natural numbers. Then, there are as many prime numbers as natural numbers.

The difference in mail handled between 195 and 1965 is -5.4 x 10

<h3>What is the difference in mail handled?</h3>

The data on the pieces of mail handled by the United States Postal Service is written in scientific notation. Scientific notation is used to compress larger numbers into smaller numbers.

In order to write a number in scientific notation, the number is written as a decimal number, between 1 and 10 and multiplied by a power of 10. For example, 1 x 10² is equivalent to 100

Difference in mail handled = mail handled in 1995 - mail handled in 1965

(1.8 x 10^{11}) - (7.2 x 10^{10})

(1.8 - 7.2)  x 10^{11 - 10}

-5.4 x 10

Which of the following are solutions to the equation below? Check all that apply.
Vesna [10]

(3x + 4)2 = 14

(3x + 4)2 means that 2 will multiply both 3x and 4

2 * 3x = 6x 2 * 4 = 8

6x + 8 = 14

Move +8 to the other side of the equation

6x = 14 - 8 Note : Moving +8 to the other side will change the sign in front of it, that is from + to -

6x = 14 - 8

6x = 6

Divide both sides by 6 because of the 6 beside the x : 6x

6x/6 = 6/6

x = 1
