Activation Synthesis Model

The activation-synthesis model is proposed by Harvard University psychiatrist John Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley. It is a neurobiological explanation of why and what happens in the brain and body during dreaming. The model hypothesized that dreams result from brain activation during REM sleep.
