Multi-step Jeremy runs 7 miles per week and increases his distance by 1 mile each week. Tony runs 3 miles per week and increases

his distance by 2 miles each week. In how many weeks will Jeremy and Tony be running the same distance? What will that distance be? Please show how to set up and work out the solutions.

We create a system of equations.

Jeremy:

y = 7 + 1x

Tony:

y = 3 + 2x

Where 'y' is the total miles, and 'x' is the number of weeks.

To find out when they will be running the same distance, we find the point of intersection between these two, which is (4, 11).

So in 4 weeks both Jeremy and Tony will be running the same distance, which is 11 miles.

The ratio of the change in dimension at right angles to the applied force to the initial dimension is known as.
Elan Coil [88]

The ratio of the change in dimension at right angles to the applied force to the initial dimension is known as Lateral strain.

Here,

We have to find, The ratio of the change in dimension at right angles to the applied force to the initial dimension .

What is Lateral strain?

Whenever the bar is subjected to the axial load ,there will be decrease in the dimensions of the bar in the perpendicular direction of loading. Therefore lateral strain is defined as ratio of decrease in the length of the bar in the perpendicular direction of applied load to that of the original length (gauge length).

⇒ e = dB/B or dD/D

where, e= lateral strain

Now,

The ratio of the change in dimension at right angles to the applied force to the initial dimension is known as Lateral strain.

Biking at 10 mph, it takes Kristen 1/4 hour to reach the train station to go to work. Kristen then takes the train to work, and
11Alexandr11 [23.1K]

Answer:

Kirsten travels 7.5 miles to go to work.

Step-by-step explanation:

Bike: 10 MPH

Time: 1/4 Hour

1/4 of 10 = 2.5

Distance travelled on bike: 2.5 miles

Train: 20 MPH

Time: 1/4 Hour

1/4 of 20 = 5

Distance travelled by train: 5 miles

Add the distances together.

5 + 2.5 = 7.5

7.5 miles

Find the coordinates of the circumcenter for ∆DEF with coordinates D(1,3) E (8,3) and F(1,-5).
NemiM [27]

Let the coordinates of the circumcentre O of the triangle DEF be (x, y). Circumcentre of a triangle is equidistant from each of the vertices.

1. Distance OD=distance OE, then:

(x-1)^2+(y-3)^2=(x-8)^2+(y-3)^2.

2. Distance OD=distance OE, then:

(x-1)^2+(y-3)^2=(x-1)^2+(y+5)^2.

Solve the system:

\left\{\begin{array}{l}          (x-1)^2+(y-3)^2=(x-8)^2+(y-3)^2 \\          (x-1)^2+(y-3)^2=(x-1)^2+(y+5)^2         \end{array}\right.,

\left\{\begin{array}{l}          x^2-2x+1+y^2-6y+9=x^2-16x+64+y^2-6y+9 \\          x^2-2x+1+y^2-6y+9=x^2-2x+1+y^2+10y+25         \end{array}\right.,

\left\{\begin{array}{l}          14x=63 \\          -16y=16         \end{array}\right..

Then

x=\dfrac{63}{14} =\dfrac{9}{2} =4.5,\\  \\ y=-1.

Answer: the coordinates of the circumcenter for ∆DEF are x=4.5, y=-1.
