Did the guarantee of "mutual destruction" keep the two superpowers from using their arsenals?

History

Answer:

Explanation:

Not entirely.

It only guaranteed that the super powers would not use atomic weapons against each other. That much worked.

  • But the super powers found other ways of fighting each other. They used proxy wars (satellites fighting each other).
  • They fought wars against powers that couldn't really fight back.
  • They fought wars where the major method used by the enemy was something like guerrilla warfare.

War doesn't stop because each possesses a weapon they dare not use against the other.

If there is one thing man is exceptionally good at as a species, that is war. We're very creative.
