As Mesozoic is known as the middle life i.e the age of the reptile and the coniferous species this era was preceded by the Paleozoic which means ancient life and this was succeeded by the Cenozoic era known as the new life.
This era of the Phanerozoic eon is the longest lasting and consists of the Cambrian, the Silurian, Devonian, the Carboniferous, and the Permian and Ordovician. And this era stated shortly after the break up of the super continent Pannotia that gather together to form the Pangaea.
