She was a Chilean poet, teacher, politician and feminist.  In 1922, José Vasconcelos, the Mexican education minister requested her to serve in his reformation program. She was awarded with the Chilean title "Teacher of the Nation" in the following year. In fact, she was bestowed with the Nobel Prize in Literature in the year 1945.
