Answer:

The federalists were members of a political party that was in the US from 1970s to 1820s.  They were a strong national party that supported the constitution and the national over the state government. They were supported by businessmen  and bankers.  They wanted  a national bank and national tariffs and good relationships with Britain.  

John Adams was the only federalist president between 1797 and 1801. It was overwhelmed by the democratic-republican opposition in 1801.
