Lou didn't break the sections correctly or evenly. You wouldn't be able to do 6 times 3 since the full length isn't 3.

Lou didn't break the sects up so he got the answer wrong. This is the correct method.....

Sect #1
6 - 3 = 3
3 x 3 = 9

Sect #2
6 - 3 = 3
3 x 8 = 24

24 + 9 = 33
