Answer:  Because of the property known as Catenation.

Explanation:  Catenation is the property of making molecules by self linkage.

This is the property mostly exhibited by the carbon. Thus it is famous for creating large molecules or large chains of carbon and hydrogen atoms.

This property is also exhibited sulfur of the chalcogen family.

The structure of a carbon atom enables it to form large molecules as it can form four chemical bonds to the other atoms as well. It usually forms covalent bond by sharing of the electrons.

Carbon is the only element that can form so many different compounds because each carbon atom can form four chemical bonds to other atoms ,and because the carbon atom is just the right ,small size to fit in comfortably as parts of a very large molecules.

What state of matter can expand to fit the volume of a container
Nikolay [14]

The liquid state of matter can do this, as its atoms aren’t as tightly connected as the ones in solids. Imagine you have a big pile of marbles. In this analogy, solids would be strong magnetic marbles, which, once formed, would keep their shape. Liquids would be like barely bonded marbles, basically loose, which would accomodate themselves to the bowl where they would be in. And gas would be floating marbles, flying around, spreading whenever empty space can be found.

In addition to showing the ratio of atoms in a molecule, what else do the subscripts in a formula tell us?
Delicious77 [7]

Answer:

See explanation

Explanation:

Usually, when we write a chemical formula for any compound or other chemical specie, we use subscripts to;

  1. Indicate the ratio of atoms of each element present in the compound or chemical specie
  2. Show the number of atoms of each element present in the compound or chemical specie.

Hence, the subscripts written after chemical formulas have more than one function as described above.

In H2SO4 for instance, there are two hydrogen atoms, one sulphur atom and four oxygen atoms as shown in the chemical formula.
