Given that the Middle Ages occurred between the 5th to 15th centuries, and the Renaissance age occurred between the 15th to 16th centuries. The Iberian peninsula was initially divided over territorial domain during this time.

At the end of the Middle Ages, and by the beginning of the Renaissance Age, they formed alliances which made them stronger in terms of power and politics. During this time, they acquired a territorial holding in places like America, the Philippines, Milan, etc.

Some of the major events at this time were:

1. Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus under the patronage of Ferdinand and Isabella in an attempt to discover a westward route to India in 1492

2. The Habsburg-Valois Wars between Spain and France in 199

3. Holy Roman Emperor and king of Spain Charles V relinquishes the crown, formally renouce their title as emperor in 1558
