A consumer takes goods from producers and gives them money in return. This is part of the economic cycle of money going from consumer to producer and goods going from producer to consumer.
Two examples of consumers:
You buying a bottle of water from the store
An airline purchasing a hundred new Airbus A380s from Airbus
