Steven has 5/6lb of jelly beans and 1/3lbs of gummy bears. How many more pounds of jelly beans than gummy bears does he have ?

1/3=2/6

5/6-2/6= 3/6 or 1/2

He has 1/2  pound of more jelly beans than gummy bears.

Steven has 1/2 lb. more of jelly beans than gummy bears.

1. The fractions need to have the same denomination (bottom number). The lowest common multiple of 3 and 6, is 6. So multiply 1/3 by 2 in order to get 2/6.

2. Now that the fractions have the same denominator, subtract 2/6 from 5/6 to get 3/6.

3. Simplify the fraction so it's in simplest from. 3/6 is the same as 1/2.
