Question

I don't get this quote in Poughkeepsie brother hood can u please explain it if u read the book ....“Beckett held up his knuckles for a bump. “If I watched your church burn down, would you kill me?” Cole looked suspicious. “No, and that’s a bizarre question.” Beckett looked toward the woods one more time. “If I watched Kyle die, would you kill me?” Cole’s eyes practically glowed red. Beckett nodded. “You might already have the answer to what’s hurting you.”

I've never read this but Im just guess out of nowhere.
It seems as though the thing, or should I say the person, that is hurting Cole (where its intentional or not) may be Kyle as he had a reaction to that second question Beckett asked instead of the first, that too the 'glowing red eyes' which seems like a strong feeling. Not sure if its right, but as I said, Im just saying what I think.
