Substances of small molecules are allowed by the cell membrane while substances with large molecules are not allowed to pass through. For example , amino acids and simple sugar can easily pass through the cell membrane while protein and starch can't pass through it.

The cell membrane is considered or described to be boundary or border between the interior part and exterior part of the cell.
