Americans of Chinese descent, including those of partial Chinese ancestry, make up 1.2% of the total population of the United States in 2010. According to the 2010 census, the US population of Chinese origin was composed of approximately 3.8 million people.1 In that year, half of the Chinese living in the United States were settled in California or in the state of New York. A third of a million people in North America are not citizens of the United States.
