How can you love Chinese food and not know that you love it? The misplaced  modifier is <em>and does not know it</em>.

What the person does not know, I would guess, is that there is a new restaurant located on the corner of Oak and Burberry that specializes in Chinese food.

There is a new restaurant on the corner of Oak and Burberry specializing in Chinese Food. If you didn't know about the Blue Lantern, check it out. Your taste buds will delight in your new discovery.

I can't think of a way of doing this without splitting this into 3 sentences and providing a name so I'm not repeating myself. If your teacher finds this unacceptable please put it in a comment and I'll see what I can do.

News About Turkeys, not Turkey

by David Schlessinger, Editor-In-Chief of Reuters

I once went to an interesting forum. Harvard Professor Joseph Nye spoke on "soft power" in the information age.

"Soft power" is a concept Nye developed. It deals with a person's ability to persuade and attract others to do what you want. This is the opposite of "hard power," or force.

At one point, Nye complained that the news during a stay in London was dominated by "turkeys and not Turkey." The local media mostly covered an outbreak of avian flu on a farm in rural England. There was a near complete absence of "foreign" news.

His point was that, in an information age, people need good access to a variety of information from all over in order to make informed decisions. News reports of nearly all local stories do not give people the tools they need to work in this globalizing world.

The balance of news that people want and that news providers give changes by location. It also changes by the degree to which people are personally affected by a story. You cannot force people to read something they just do not care about.

The spread of the avian flu and its potential mutation is a global story and not just a local one. The key is keeping this story in context. Make sure it is not the only world story you report on!

Like any story, it needs the right balance of expertise, accuracy, balance, and insight.

In a world of "soft power," these are the things that separate journalism from propaganda. They are what separate information from belief.

Select the correct answer.

Which detail does the writer use to support his argument that many people do not think world news is important?

A.

He tells a story about viewing London's news and getting almost no world news.

B.

He talks about the importance of local news as well as world news stories.

C.

He gives the amount of each day's report that should be about world news.

D.

He gives statistics on the number of world news stories his company reports.

Answer:

B.

He talks about the importance of local news as well as world news stories.

Explanation:

According to the article News About Turkeys, not Turkey by David Schlessinger, he talks about how news reporting differs from country to country and how people are using "soft power" to influence people to believe in what they want them to believe in.

Therefore, the detail the writer uses to support his argument that many people do not think world news is important is, he talks about the importance of local news as well as world news stories.

At the time Freeman wrote "The Revolt of 'Mother'" women's role in society was very different from that of today. In an essay of
aleksandr82 [10.1K]

In "The Revolt of Mother" Freeman described women's role in the 19th century, when women were the only ones responsible for the household chores and for raising the children. In fact, these were the only things they were supposed to be occupied with as they wouldn't go to school like boys nor would they find a job. Freeman also describes the position of the mother in the family, where she couldn't participate in decision-making which concerned the house and the family including her. All important decisions were taken by the husband and even if the wife disagreed she couldn't do anything about it.

Today, in the Western world, women have gained the right to education and to equal opportunities in employment. Their role in the family has also changed as today the father participates in the household chores as well and he is also responsible for bringing up the children. Nowadays, the women can take important decisions concerning their lives and their families.

However, there some remnants from that era that are still with us today. For example, even if women have gained the right to vote there are still less women in the Parliaments than men. In addition to this, there are plenty of jobs in which they prefer to hire men or where women and men are not equally paid.  Last but not least, many people still believe that women should have a different role in the family than men.

In conclusion, although the position of women has improved a lot since the era of Freeman, there are still many issues to be resolved.

Label the prefix and suffix in the word “incredible” by typing “prefix” or “suffix” into the blanks:
vagabundo [1.1K]

Answer:

“-ible” is a  suffix

and “in-” is a prefix

Explanation:

By definition, a prefix is <em>"a word, letter, or number placed before another."</em>

In this case, "in-" is placed before credible, which means that it is a prefix.

In the end of the word, we have the suffix, <em>"-ible".</em>

Suffix, by definition, is: <em>"a morpheme added at the end of a word to form a derivative"</em>
