The cost constraint suggests that, even when the cost of providing accounting information exceeds its benefit, the financial acc
Alekssandra [29.7K]

Answer:

False

Explanation:

The GAAP established that when the benefits of obtaining accounting information are lower than the costs of providing that information, the information should not be provided.

For example, sometimes there are very small differences in certain accounts that don't allow a balance sheet to be balanced. If the accounting error is very small, e.g. just a few hundred dollars, then it is not reasonable to have a whole audit team check all the financial statements again to determine what caused the error. An adjusting entry could be made to close the account balances.

Imagine you are an auditor that must check the physical inventory of a factory and some boxes containing supplies are misplaced. It might take you a whole day to count again all the supplies and materials, but is it worth it? If the supplies were really expensive, probably yes, but if they were cheap components, then probably no.

Saddle Inc. has two types of handbags: standard and custom. The controller has decided to use a plantwide overhead rate based on
AlladinOne [14]

Answer:

Saddle Inc.

1. Overhead rate using the traditional (plantwide) approach is:

= $1.84

2. The overhead rates using activity-based costing approach are:

Machining = $72.49

Machine setup = $211.69

3. The difference in allocation between the two approaches:

Differences:

ABC approach        $121,808   $178,188   $299,996

Using plantwide     $110,400  $189,520  $299,920

Differences              $11,408    -$11,332             $76

Explanation:

a) Data and Calculations:

Total estimated overhead costs = $300,000

Machining activity = $195,000

Machine setup activity = $105,000

                             Standard   Custom     Total

Direct labor costs $60,000 $103,000  $163,000

Machine hours           1,400        1,290       2,690

Setup hours                    96          400          496

Overhead rate based on direct labor costs = $1.84 ($300,000/163,000)

Overhead rates using activity-based costing approach:

Machining = $72.49 ($195,000/2,690)

Machine setup = $211.69 ($105,000/496)

Allocation of overhead costs:

                                 Standard   Custom         Total

Using plantwide       $110,400  $189,520  $299,920

Using ABC:

Machining                $101,486    $93,512    $194,998

Machine setup           20,322      84,676      104,998

Total costs               $121,808   $178,188   $299,996

Differences:

ABC approach        $121,808   $178,188   $299,996

Using plantwide     $110,400  $189,520  $299,920

Firm A and B have identical business except that their financing is different: Firm A: EBIT = X = $10, D = $20 Firm B: EBIT = X
STALIN [3.7K]

Answer:

1. Which firm has a greater FCF (free cash flow)?

  • (A) Firm A

2. What is firm A’s (annual) tax shield?

  • (B) $0.8

3. What is firm B’s (annual) tax shield?

  • (C) $3.2

Explanation:

since firm A's debt is $20, its value is $100, then its equity = $80

since firm B's debt is $80, its value is $100, then its equity = $20

Firm A's cash flow = (EBIT - interest expense) x (1 - tax rate) = [$10 - ($20 x 10%)] x 0.6 = $4.80

Firm B's cash flow = (EBIT - interest expense) x (1 - tax rate) = [$10 - ($80 x 10%)] x 0.6 = $1.20

Firm A's annual tax shield = taxable interest x tax rate = ($20 x 10%) x 40% = $0.80

Firm B's annual tax shield = taxable interest x tax rate = ($80 x 10%) x 40% = $3.20
