Difference means subtraction
times means multiplication

Difference of a and b would be a-b

so difference of 5 times a number, which is 5n, and 10 would be: 5n-10

So your answer is:

\huge{\boxed{\boxed{\boxed{\sf{5n-10}}}}

5n - 10 is the way to write the expression you wrote in English above.
It does not mean much until we set it equal to something.
For example:
The difference of five times a number n and 10 is 25.

Now
 5n - 10 = 25
by subtracting 10 from each side we get 5n=35  and then if we divide both sides by 5, we get n=7.

One side of a triangle is 3 times longer than the shortest side and the third side is 4 centimeters longer than the shortest sid
givi [52]

Answer:

First side is: 12cm

Second side is: 36cm

Third side is: 16cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent the shorter side

Then 3x represents the second side, and

x + 4 represents the third side.

Perimeter of three sides:

P = x + 3x + (x + 4)

Perimeter is 64, so

64 = x + 3x + (x + 4)

64 = 5x + 4

60 = 5x

12 = x

First side is x: 12cm

Second side is 3x: 3(12) = 36cm

Third side is x + 4: 12 + 4 = 16cm

What is the equation of the line that passes through the points (6,8) and (-3,2)
Vikki [24]

The point-slope form:

y-y_1=m(x-x_1)\\\\m=\dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

We have the points (6, 8) and (-3, 2). Substitute:

m=\dfrac{2-8}{-3-6}=\dfrac{-6}{-9}=\dfrac{2}{3}\\\\y-8=\dfrac{2}{3}(x-6)\qquad|\text{use distributive property}\\\\y-8=\dfrac{2}{3}x-4\qquad|+8\\\\y=\dfrac{2}{3}x+4\qquad|-\dfrac{2}{3}x\\\\-\dfrac{2}{3}x+y=4\qquad|\cdot(-3)\\\\2x-3y=-12

Answer:

point-slope form: y-8=\dfrac{2}{3}(x-6)

slope-intercept form: y=\dfrac{2}{3}x+4

standard form: 2x-3y=-12

A slide is 21 feet long. To get to the top of the slide, you use a vertical 9-foot high rung ladder. What is the distance, b, fr
mojhsa [17]
Its a right angled triangle. You have C and have B all you need to find is A. usually for a question like this you would use the Pythagorean theorem which is A2+B2=C2 but since we already have c we will use C2-B2=A2
Now we fill in the values. (21)2-(9)2=A2
441-81=360^2 so now with the 360^2 we have to squareroot it so the square root of 360 is 18.973f
