Además, la mayoría de la población del imperio era de cultura latina en su parte occidental (Africa, Italia, España, Francia) y de cultura griega en su parte oriental (Anatolia, Egipto, Grecia, los Balcanes), lo cual obligaba a emplear elementos de la filosofía griega y romana para hacer inteligibles al explicar conceptos hebreos en términos de esas dos culturas dominantes.

Un ejemplo de esto se puede apreciar en el uso de dos palabras griegas en el Nuevo Testamento que significaban <em>amor</em> (agape-filios).
