Describe the major debates that impacted the creation of the Articles of Confederation. One was about the sum of money each state should pay into a common treasury:

Northern states proposed that it should be in proportion to a states total population (including slaves, not untaxed native Americans). Southern states objected to that proposal because they consider slaves to be property.

Another one was about the voting power of the states in Congress (each state gets one vote was the objective).

The Articles of Confederation (The Continental Congress) were the first constitution of the US, on November 15, 1777. The present US Constitution replaced the Articles of Confederation.

revolution; established's firm league of friendship" among the states, but allowed few important powers to the central government

on november 15, 1777 the Articles of Confederation were approved to govern the 13 states pf America

A firm league of friendship was established among the states while each state kept its sovereignty, freedom and independence, and every power, jurisdiction, and right... not expressly delegated to the untied states

they came together for "their common defense, the security of liberties, and their mutual and general welfare..."

ratification

formal approval, final consent to the effectiveness of constitution, constitutional amendment , or treaty

the articles of confederation needed ratification, formal approval, from each of the 13 states to go into effect, which it did not get until 1781 when Maryland finally ratified the document

The only body created was a unicameral congress who were chosen yearly

there was no executive or judicial act as congress chose on member as the president

congress had the power to make war and peace, send and receive ambassadors, make treaties, borrow money, set up a monetary system, establish post offices, build a navy, raise an army by asking the states for troops, fix uniform standards of weight and measurements, and settle disputes among the states

10AM–12AM

full faith and credit

constitution's requirement that each state accept the public acts, records and judicial proceedings of every other state

the states promised to provide funds and troops to the national government, treat citizens of other states fairly and equally, and give full faith and credit to the public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other states

Articles of confederations has many weaknesses:

1. congress did not have the power to tax

congress could not levy a tax in order to raise money, it could only ask the states for money, which the states often refused to fully comply with constantly leaving the national government without the ability to meet its financial obligations

2.congress did not regulate trade which made it difficult to grow the young economy snd led to many disputes

3. congress could not force the states to obey the Articles of the national government

congress could not force the states to comply with its rulings and they could not be changed unless all 13 complied

4.congress could not meet basic demands of national security

Shay's rebellion was a rising among Massachusetts farmers who were bankrupt and unable to repay their debts, so they were thrown in jail.

a group of debtors led by Daniel Shays attempted to take control of the Massachusetts government and the national government could not raise an army to keep peace, Massachusetts had to do it

this showed everyone that the Articles of Confederation were too weak to govern the country

Shays' Rebellion

western Massachusetts in a series of incidents

economic conditions worsened there, proper holders, many of them small farmers, began to lose their land and other possessions for lack of payment on taxes and other debts.

Describe the major debates that impacted the creation of the Articles of Confederation

one:

the amount of money each state should pay into a common treasury.the northern states proposed that the sum should be in proportion to a states total population, and should include slaves but not untaxed native americans. the southern states objected to this because they consider slaves to be property.

two:

voting power of the states in Congress. The plan was each state gets one vote.

How did the government structure set up under the Articles of Confederation reflect the ideas and experiences of the English colonists who had been in a fight for independence?

several important powers were given to the Congress. It gave them more power or so called independence. Wanted more power to give to the states. They wanted it to be of the people.

Why did Congress refrain from including the power to tax in the Articles of Confederation?

Because the debts would not get paid.

It could raise money only by borrowing and by asking the States for funds. Bowling was at best a bad choice because of the debt already from the revolutionary war

In what ways was Shays' Rebellion a result of the weakness in the Articles of Confederation?

when crisis come they can not come together

could not have a central money system to even pay.

no such power and could not prevent nor take care of the problem when it came up. shows all the weakness of the article of confederation.

How did the Eichmann trial differ from the Nuremberg trials and what was the impact of the Eichmann trial?
julia-pushkina [17]

Eichmann trial was different in several ways. The public could, for the first time, watch coverage of the trial on television. The Eichmann trial brought the true scope of the Holocaust into public focus, filling the pages of newspapers with the stories of Holocaust survivors. While previous trials, including the Nuremberg Trials, had focused primarily on documentary evidence, the Eichmann trial called Holocaust survivors to the stand to share their personal experiences, with approximately 100 survivors taking the stand and testifying during the trial, which lasted from April 1960 until August 1961.

What did the South African government hope to accomplish by passing
apartheid legislation?
gregori [183]
Every political right held by black Africans was restricted to their designated homeland, including their right to vote. The South African government established this law in hopes of black Africans becoming citizens of their designated homelands, thereby forfeiting their citizenship to South Africa.
