The term extinction is used, in psychology, to explain the decrease of a conditioned response of a behavior, progressing into it's disappearance. Like in the exercise, Marta decreased her use of the vending machine (conditioned response) given that it consistently failed to give her what she wanted. Therefore, it ended up in extinction, in the disappearance of it's practise.
