Which of the following describes a similarity between the American and French revolutions?
Katarina [22]

The correct answer is C.

Both revolutions were triggered due to a bad financial situation that led to the increase in the tax burden that mostly affected the unprivileged social classes. From this point onwards, the two revolutions developed based on the Enlightment principles as the unpriveleged claimed for decision power.

The Enlightenment philosophers, such as Locke, Monstequieu or Rosseau. introduced ideas that challenged, and ended up derrocating, the power structures of the Old Regime. They promoted reason and the scientific method over religious dogmatism and superstititions.

The main principles developed were the following: definition of bills of citizens' rights, social contract (citizens electing political representatives to create goverments through suffrage, in opposition to the prevailing absolute monarchies), and the division of the powers of the state in order to avoid excessive power accumulation in certain sectors, and risks of authoritarism.

What happens in world history if the American Revolution fails?
QveST [7]

Answer:

If the US lost the American revolution, I'd think you would end up seeing a similar relationship that the UK had with Canada, Australia, etc.

The immediate consequences would have resulted in the founding fathers executions or imprisonment. Some like Franklin, who were seen as more worldly may have kept their freedom but overall all those guys probably would be done as political actors. The British would have made the colonies pay for much of the cost of the war and the continued stationing of massive amounts of solders.

Over time the British would have probably continued to expand their control over the lands between the Appalachians and the Mississippi, resulting in a series of further colonies. Many of these colonies would be simple expansions of already existing colonies like New York, Pennsylvania and Virgina. I believe all three had claims to lands West of the Appalachians, claims that had to be dealt with and truncated in the new America, but may have been left alone in a 19th century British colonial America.
