Ymorist [56]
The Roosevelt Corollary was an idea by president Theodore Roosevelt that was based on the Monroe Doctrine. Basically, it established that the United States would be like a police force that would meddle in Latin American politics in order to prevent escalation or support a side in a war or something similar, instead of having Europe meddle in their affairs.

2. Why did ancient civilizations develop roads and waterways?
r-ruslan [8.4K]

Answer: Civilizations developed around rivers because their waters provided places to hunt and fish. Also, as the rivers flooded, the lands around them became fertile. This allowed them to support farming. This is especially true of the Nile River, which flooded the same time each year.

Michelangelo and other Renaissance artists used a "polarity of themes" in their paintings and sculpture. Explain what "polarity"
BigorU [14]
Polarity means the difference between two separate things like the north and south pole. In Renaissance art the two "polarity of themes" commonly seen are gender roles and religion. Michelangelo' s La Pieata is a perfect example of the religion theme as it has the polarity of a mortal known as the virgin mary holding her deceased son Jesus and the son of God himself. For gender roles there is a piece of work called Venus and Mars by Sandro Botticelli. This piece shows role-reversal as Venus the goddess of love seems to have control over everything in the scenery, while Mars the god of war is asleep and unaware of his weaponry being taken from him leaving him helpless.
