Troops and tanks came in but couldn’t enter due to citizens and students blocking the way, and by June 3rd the government told the military to reclaim the square at all costs. They forcefully cleared the square killing hundreds and arresting thousands suspected. As an effect strict communists took more control of the government in hopes to stop more protests.
