The War of 1812 was fought between the US and Great Britain. Native Americans and  Canadian militia helped the British as the British soldiers were busy in Europe.

The British were seizing American ships and also impressing  the american sailors to serve in British Navy. It also interfered in the westward expansion of US by provoking the Native Americans against Americans.

The British had also <em>rejected the US neutrality</em> in global war, the British parliament had also issued twelve " Orders in Council" to prevent US from trading with France. Due to all these issues James Madison declared war against Britain on June 18, 1812. <em>The Americans wanted to compel Britain to negotiate by capturing Canada and using it as bargaining chip. But the Canadian invasion failed.</em>
