If sitting in front of a screen for 9 hours causes him physical discomfort he could try to make those 9 hours more comfortable to work in. To do this he could get a new chair that is made to be comfortable for long periods of time.

The second thing he could do is reduce his screen time. This is entirely dependent on the working conditions that he has. For example, does he work from home, how considerate is his boss. If it is allowed of him he should try to take 5-10 minute breaks in between hours. This could increase his work productivity and help his discomfort.
