So, when the Castro regime announced in April that all Cubans who wished to leave to the United States were free to go, I chose to leave. I had a sister who had moved and settled in Florida earlier. She arranged for me to come to her.
I boarded a small boat at the port of Mariel in Havana and arrived Florida the next day.
