Orval Eugene Faubus was the 36th governor of the state of Arkansas from 1955 to 1967. Faubus is best known for defeating a Supreme Court ruling in 1957 by sending the National Guard to prevent black students from attending Little Rock Central High School. The extreme right-wing National States' Rights Party nominated Democrat Faubus as their candidate in the 1960 presidential election. Faubus did not run an active campaign and received only 0.07% of the vote. In older days, Faubus changed his views on the racial issue and supported Jesse Jackson in the Democrats' primary election ahead of the 1984 presidential election.
