An individual who acts stoically during torture is one who demonstrates the ability to endure pain under harsh circumstances without showing any signs of feeling considerable pain. The image portrayed by this action is one of being unafraid and they wanted to prove to their captors that they were not afraid of dying a painful death.

Oksi-84 [34.3K]

Answer:

According to the excerpt from "The Golden Cat", a poem by Oliver Herford, the meaning of the figurative language in lines 5 and 6 simply means that

The sun does not appear all at once. It starts gradually from the edge of the dark horizon.

This is evident from Line 5 which states that He stretches forth his paw at the dawn.

Cheers

"The only way to prove you are a good sport is to lose." - Ernie Banks - What does this mean to you
DENIUS [597]

Answer:

To me, this statement is kind of a mixture between the realization that you can't and you're not going to win every time you play anything, and your character has to rise above that. We're all going to face failures, whether they be minor or major, sports related or not, but we all have to experience it sooner or later. There's no avoiding it. I think we each have to realize though, that it's not completely the failure itself that is responsible for our actions, but how we respond and cope to the defeat. We can choose to reflect on it for as long as we feel is needed, but we can take past failures and loses, and use them as motivations and teaching moments so that we may have future successes.

At what point did you realize the purpose of the lottery
fiasKO [112]
The purpose of the lottery is essentially a malformed version of Robin Hood. Instead of stealing from the rich to give to the poor, the lotto gets donations from the poor to give to a random person. Could be rich, could be poor. A "tax on the poor" as Dave Ramsey puts it.
