Growing sugar cane became a large business since the Spanish brought slaves from Africa to do the work. Before Africans came the Native Americans were forced to work on sugar plantations on large estates which were run by an owner and were treated bad leading to many deaths.

Also known as the Coercive Acts; 1774 laws passed by the British Parliament in retaliation for the Boston Tea Party; closed the Boston Harbor, stripped Massachusetts of its charter, abolished town meetings, increased the power of the appointed royal governor, and renewed the Quartering Act
They didn't do much at all to help anything besides speed up the Civil War. Each act or compromise just pushed the divide between the north and the south even more apart
