HURRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! Justin’s doctor said that the expression StartFraction x + y + 5 over 2 EndFraction, where x and y are hi

s parents’ current heights in inches, gives an estimate of how tall Justin will be as an adult. Justin’s work evaluating the formula is shown below. Mom’s height = 54 inches Dad’s height = 71 inches StartFraction 71 + 54 + 5 over 2 EndFraction = 71 + 27 + 5 = 103 inches What error did Justin make? A. He should have made x equal 54 and y equal 71. B. He should have added the values in the numerator before dividing by 2. C. He should have divided the 71 by 2 instead of the 27. D. He should have made the numerator 76 + 59.

Given:

The expression is which gives an estimate of how tall Justin will be as an adult is

\dfrac{x+y+5}{2}

where, x and y are his parents’ current heights in inches.

Mom’s height = 54 inches Dad’s height = 71 inches.

His calculation:

\dfrac{71+54+5}{2}=71+27+5=103\ inches

To find:

Justin's mistake.

Solution:

Let x be Dad’s height  and y be Mom’s height. So, correct estimation for his height is

\dfrac{71+54+5}{2}=\dfrac{130}{2}

\dfrac{71+54+5}{2}=65

He should have added the values in the numerator before dividing by 2.

Therefore, the correct option is B.

The width of the rectangle is five feet less than the length. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 34 feet find both dimensions
Lyrx [107]

Answer:

length = 11 ft, width = 6 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Let w be the width, l be the length and p the perimeter. You can write down the following equations:

1. w = l - 5

2. p = 2*(w + l)

Now you have two equations with two unknown.

Plugging eq.1 in eq.2:

p = 2*(l-5 + l)

p = 2*(2*l - 5)

p = 4*l - 10

Remember p = 34

34 = 4*l - 10

4*l = 44

l = 11

Using eq.1 to solve for w:

w = 11 - 5

w = 6

Step-by-step explanation:

You need to find the HCF of 36 and 90.

<u>Prime factors of each:</u>

  • 36 = 2*2*3*3
  • 90 = 2*3*3*5

<u>HCF includes all prime factors of both numbers:</u>

  • HCF(36, 90) = 2*2*3*3*5 = 180
