The poem "hope" by Emily Dickinson wonderfully compares the sentiment of hope with the very real experience of birds around and how they chirp and sing a song without any expectations.

The birds do not know, and do not care how pleasing they are to the humans who hear their songs. They never ask for anything in return for their song.

Similarly, hope is a sentiment that constantly gives people a pleasure that they had been seeking for long and makes them believe that the things can be okay.
