The quadratic formula:

ax^2+bx+c=0\\\\x_1=\dfrac{-b-\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a};\ x_2=\dfrac{-b+\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

We have:

5x^2+12x-2=0\\\\a=5;\ b=12;\ c=-2\\\\b^2-4ac=12^2-4\cdot5\cdot(-2)=144+40=184\\\\\sqrt{b^2-4ac}=\sqrt{184}=\sqrt{4\cdot46}=2\sqrt{46}

substitute

x_1=\dfrac{-12-2\sqrt{46}}{2\cdot5}=\dfrac{-6-\sqrt{46}}{5}\\\\x_2=\dfrac{-12+2\sqrt{46}}{2\cdot5}=\dfrac{-6+\sqrt{46}}{5}

b) The range of hex addresses in a microcomputer with 4096 memory locations is ;  4095

<u>applying the given data </u>:

a) first step : convert FFFF₁₆ to decimal           ( note F₁₆ = 15 decimal )

( F * 16^3 ) + ( F * 16^2 ) + ( F * 16^1 ) + ( F * 16^0 )

= ( 15 * 16^3 ) + ( 15 * 16^2 ) + ( 15 * 16^1 ) + ( 15 * 1 )

=  61440 + 3840 + 240 + 15 = 65535

∴ the memory locations from  0000₁₆ to FFFF₁₆ = from 0 to 65535 = 65536 locations

b) The range of hex addresses with a memory location of 4096

= 0000₁₆ to FFFF₁₆ =  0 to 4096

∴ the range = 4095

Hence we can conclude that the memory locations in ( a ) = 65536 while the range of hex addresses with a memory location of 4096 = 4095.

Well it depends what 'v' stands for

well all you need to do is replace the v with the number it stands for. For example if v=2 then the expression would be 4.2(2) - 5 - 6.5(2)
Then you use the order of operations. first you multiply

8.4 - 5 - 13

then you subtract from left to right 

8.4 - 5 = 3.4

3.4 - 13 =  -13 - 3.4 = -9.4

So IF v=2 (I used 2 as an example, V might not = 2 in your case) then the
answer will be -9.4
