renaissance means rebirth. people rediscovered greek philosophy and humanism started to spread again. Protagoras once said "Man is the measure of all things" and they used this conception in arts, architecture, politics, science and literature. they started to focus on pleasuring themselves during their lifetime and not on suffering as they used to in the Middle Ages. altho religion still played a big part in their life, but they didn't let the church control them.
