Depreciation Methods Clearcopy, a printing company, acquired a new press on January 1, 2019. The press cost $173,400 and had an

expected life of 8 years or 4,500,000 pages and an expected residual value of $15,000. Clearcopy printed 675,000 pages in 2019. Required: 1. Compute 2019 depreciation expense using the: 2019 a. Straight-line method $ b. Double-declining-balance method $ c. Units-of-production method $ 2. What is the book value of the machine at the end of 2019 under each method

Answer:

The computations are shown below:

Explanation:

The computations are shown below:

1. a) Straight-line method:

= (Original cost - expected residual value) ÷ (expected life)

= ($173,400 - $15,000) ÷ (8 years)

= (158,400) ÷ (8 years)

= $19,800

In this method, the depreciation is same for all the remaining useful life

(b) Double-declining balance method:

First we have to find the depreciation rate which is shown below:

= One ÷ useful life

= 1 ÷ 8

= 12.5%

Now the rate is double So, 25%

In year 1, the original cost is $173,400 so the depreciation is $43,350 after applying the 25% depreciation rate

(c) Units-of-production method:

= (Original cost - residual value) ÷ (estimated production)

= ($173,400 - $15,000 ) ÷ ($4,500,000 pages)

= ($158,400) ÷ ($4,500,000 pages)

= $0.0352

Now for the first year, it would be

= Production pages in first year × depreciation per page

=  675,000 pages × $0.0352

= $23,760

2. The book values are as follows

As we know that

Book value = Purchase cost - accumulated depreciation

a) Straight-line method:

= $173,400 - $19,800

= $153,600

(b) Double-declining balance method:

= $173,400 - $43,350

= $130,050

(c) Units-of-production method:

= $173,400 - $23,760

= $149,640

Rzqust [24]

Answer:

d. $1,000

Explanation:

Gross domestic product is the sum of all final goods and services produced in an economy within a given period which is usually a year.

GDP = Consumption spending by households on durable and non durable goods and services + Investment spending by businesses + Government Spending + Net Export

Consumption spending = $200 + $200 + $100 = $500

Investment spending = $200 + $(500 - 400) = $300

Government spending = $200 + $100 = $300

Transfer payments aren't included in the calculation of GDP. So, the $200 spent on welfare and unemployment benefits and $300 on social security payments isn't included in the calculation of GDP.

Net export = Export- Import = $400 - $500 = $-100

GDP = $500 + $300 + $300 - $100 = $1000

What sum of money today is equivalent to $8,250 2 years from now, if annual interest rate is 4%, compounding semi-annually?
Mariulka [41]

Answer:

$7,621.72

Explanation:

The equation that describes the future value (FV) of an investment (P) at an interest rate (r) for a period of n years, compounded semi-annually is:

FV = P*(1+\frac{r}{2})^{2n}

The amount required to yield $8,250 after 2 years at a rate of 4% per year is:

8,250 = P*(1+\frac{0.04}{2})^{2*2} \\P=\$7,621.72

Answer:

You didn't post the complete information of the exercise, I searched the exercise online and tried to ask the most useful question.

Explanation:

The net present value method is based on two assumptions. These are:

1.The cash generated by a project is immediately reinvested to generate a return at a rate that is equal to the discount rate used in present value analysis.

2. The inflow and outflow of cash other than initial investment occur at the end of each period.

Answer:

Results are below.

Explanation:

The absorption costing method includes all costs related to production, both fixed and variable. <u>The unit product cost is calculated using direct material, direct labor, and total unitary manufacturing overhead. </u>

<u>First, we need to calculate the unitary fixed manufacturing overhead:</u>

Unitary fixed overhead= 85,400/2,440= $35

<u>Absorption costing income statement:</u>

Sales= 2,280*145= 330,600

COGS= 2,280* (49 + 17 + 17 + 35)= (269,040)

Gross profit= 61,560

Total selling and administrative= 22,800 + (2,280*10)= (45,600)

Net income= 15,960
