Armand became cold, angry and avoided Desiree and the baby when Desiree confronted Armand about her discovery. Such reaction led Armand to express his desire in telling Desiree and her baby to leave his house. Desiree and the baby walk into the bayou and that's the place it's presumed they died.

When Armand discovered that the baby is not white but turns out to have a dark skin, his actions towards Desiree changed drastically and he started avoiding her and the baby.

"Desiree's Baby" is short story which was written by Kate Chopin. It was written before the American Civil War. In summary, it's a story about a baby and a racial crisis between a husband and his wife.
