Fences by Pat Nora What is the poet saying about "self" and "identity"?

English

Answer:

  • Fences is an exceptional poem by Pat Nora. The poet talks about growing up in a Spanish household and draws a clear contrast of the lives of poor people among the rich tourists. She beautifully highlights class divisions and privileges reserved to the rich people of our society.

  • She also explains how her family knows their true place in this social order. Her brother works at the beach while her mother stops her siblings i.e her little sister from going to the beach, since it is not their right to walk on sand.

  • She also describes how she works on fixing the fence every day while glancing at women and children enjoying their time leisurely.

King evokes what type of appeal in his audience by mentioning the various historical documents,
lesya [120]

Answer:

Logical appeal (Logos)

Explanation:

Logical appeal, also known as Logos is one of the three modes of persuasion that appeals to logic or reason. To support an argument using logos, facts, statistics, and history are referenced. In the Speech, "I have a Dream", by Martin Luther King, the Emancipation proclamation by Abraham Lincoln which was declared 100 years ago, was referenced at the onset of the speech and this served as a logical appeal to history.

The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were also references to history aimed at supporting King's arguments.
