What is it important that the soviet union launched the space satellite?
mixas84 [53]
"The Sputnik launch changed everything. As a technical achievement, Sputnik caught the world's attention and the American public off-guard. Its size was more impressive than Vanguard's intended 3.5-pound payload. In addition, the public feared that the Soviets' ability to launch satellites also translated into the capability to launch ballistic missiles that could carry nuclear weapons from Europe to the U.S. Then the Soviets struck again; on November 3, Sputnik II was launched, carrying a much heavier payload, including a dog named Laika.
The Sputnik launch also led directly to the creation of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). In July 1958, Congress passed the National Aeronautics and Space Act (commonly called the "Space Act"), which created NASA as of October 1, 1958 from the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) and other government agencies."- https://history.nasa.gov/sputnik/

What is trench warfare, and why was so much of World War I dominated by this method of fighting? Consider such elements as techn
erica [24]

Answer:

A trench war or position war is a war in which both parties have buried themselves opposite each other in trenches and other fortified positions, with the aim of stopping the advance of the enemy, which has resulted in a stalemate in which neither party succeeds through the enemy lines to break. In fact, a trench war is a situation where both sides besiege each other. Normally in the case of a siege there is an attacking party besieging the defending party, but in a trench war both parties are besiegers and besieged at the same time.

The best known trench war is the First World War (1914-1918), but wars such as the Civil War (1861-1865) and the Russian-Japanese War (1904-05) also exhibited characteristics of trench wars.

Nowadays trench wars only occur in the Third World, where the warring parties have modern firearms but hardly any vehicles such as tanks and planes. In the conflicts between Ethiopia and Eritrea at the end of the 20th century, trench wars were also waged.

How did the search for a labor force shape the English colonies and where was each
rusak2 [61]

Answer:

The English colonies were shaped by the search for a labor force in many ways. One way was through the use of freemen or yeomen. These were people who were not indentured servants and were free to work for themselves. Another way was through the use of indentured servitude. This was a system where people would work for a certain period of time, usually four to seven years, in exchange for their passage to America. After they had fulfilled their contract, they were free to work for themselves. The last way was through the use of slavery. This was a system where people were forcibly brought to America and forced to work for their entire lives.
