These included the Southern colonies of Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia with Georgia being created by England's King George as a barrier to protect South Carolina from the Spanish who were in Florida because he was worried that they may try to capture the very prosperous colony.
Another reason was profit. The Southern Colonies contained vast fertile lands that would be very useful in Agriculture. Virginia was able to provide wheat and tobacco.
