The increase in 65 and older people population is being caused because of the Baby Boomers. More people were introduced at the baby boomer time period. In 2011 those baby boomers reached the age of 65. in 2050 the surviving baby boomers are expected to be 85 and older making up most of the percentage of older people with the rest being those who are not baby boomers and aged to be 65 and increasing.
