During the early 1800s, the West was largely uninhabited, and life in the frontier could be very harsh and difficult. The journey was dangerous, an people needed to be self-reliant. However, many people were able to make a living in this region.

There were many reasons why Americans decided to move West during the early 1800s. One of the most important ones was the desire to find more land. As the population of the country expanded, more families wanted to buy land. However, prices in already established states were high, and finding land in the West was a cheaper alternative.

Another reason was the sense of adventure and discovery. Many people were curious about what the West had to offer. They also liked the idea of going to where few people had been before, and seeing things that were largely unknown at the time.

Finally, another reason for expanding to these areas was to profit from the natural resources these areas offered. Many businessmen made their fortune by profiting from the resources of these regions during the expansion to the West.
