y = -2x + 9

y = 4x - 3

y is isolated in both equations, thus you may set the expressions (-2x + 9) and (4x - 3) equal to each other and solve for x.

-2x + 9 = 4x - 3

Subtract 9 from both sides.

-2x + 9 - 9 = 4x - 3 - 9

-2x = 4x - 12

Subtract 4x from both sides.

-2x - 4x = 4x - 12 - 4x

-6x = -12

Divide both sides by -6.

-6x/-6 = -12/-6

x = 2

Substitute 2 for x into one of the original equations to find y.

y = 4x - 3 (given)

y = 4(2) - 3 (substitute)

y = 8 - 3 (multiply)

y = 5 (subtract)

Plug x- and y-values into original equations to check work.

5 = -2(2) + 9

5 = - 4 + 9

5 = 5

5 = 4(2) - 3

5 = 8 - 3

5 = 5

Answer:

x = 2 and y = 5; (2, 5).

Set the two equations equal to each other, because both equal y

-2x + 9 = 4x - 3

Isolate the x.

-2x (-4x) + 9 (-9) = 4x (-4x) - 3 (-9)

-2x - 4x = - 3 - 9

-6x = -12

Isolate the x. Divide -6 from both sides

-6x/-6 = -12/-6

x = 2

Place 2 for x in one of the equations

y = 4(2) - 3

Solve

y = 8 - 3

y = 5

x = 2, y = 5 is your answer

hope this helps

Let a,b & c be the number of cookies Adrian, Bobby and Calvin baked respectively.

(a+b+c)/3 =138

(a+b)/2 =136

a+b=272

a=272-b

(b+c)/2 =125

b+c=250

c=250-b

Sub a=272-b and c=250-b into (a+b+c)/3 =138,

(a+b+c)/3 =138

[(272-b)+b+(250-b)]/3 = 138

272-b+b+250-b = 414

-b = -108

b=108

From the above,

a=272-b

=272-108

a=164

c=250-b

=250-108

c=142

∵ a=164

b=108

c=142

∴ Adrian baked 164 cookies.

Bobby baked 108 cookies.

Calvin baked 142 cookies.

Find the first four iterates of the function f(x) = (x - 5)2 with an initial value of x0 = 4.
mina [271]

Answer:

 b. 1; 16; 121; 13,456

Step-by-step explanation:

A suitable calculator or spreadsheet can compute these for you.

Put the value of x into the formula to find the first iterate. Repeat for successive iterates.

_____

Comment on the answer choices

You can eliminate the first two answer choices because none of the numbers 19, 645, 12645 are perfect squares. You can eliminate the last answer choice because the first term listed is x0, not x1.
