This was initiated by the government of United states for the purpose of navigation of military. Now a days GPS can be used by anyone using a GPS device and can be able to receive the signals that are broadcasted.
There will be at least four GPS satellites that will be visible over any time. The information will be transmitted at a regular interval of time depending upon the position and the current timings. These signals will be transmitted at the speed of light and will be identified by the GPS receiver.
