Answer:

Distance from Chester to Dublin is  11\frac{9}{10}   miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

Distance from Alston to Barton (A to B)= 10\frac{3}{5}=\frac{53}{5}   miles

Distance from Barton to Chester (B to C)= 12\frac{1}{2}=\frac{25}{2}  miles

Distance from Alston to Dublin via Barton and Chester(A to D) = 35 miles

Let the distance from Chester to Durban(C to D) = x

Refer the attached figure.

Therefore,

Total distance(A to D)= distance (A to B)+distance (B to C)+distance (C to D)

Putting values , we get

35=\frac{53}{5}+\frac{25}{2}+x

35-\frac{53}{5}-\frac{25}{2}=x

35-10.6-12.5=x

11.9=x

or x=11\frac{9}{10}

Distance from Chester to Dublin is 11\frac{9}{10}  miles.

Sergei says that 10% of a number will always be less than 20% of any other number.

That statement is only true sometimes.  If you use 500 and 10, 10% of 500 is 50, while 20% of 10 is only 2.  Clearly, 50 is larger than 2.

A fisherman casts his bait toward the river at an angle of 25° above the horizontal. The bait and hook reach a maximum height of
weeeeeb [17]

the vertical component of the casting velocity will be reduce to zero at point h by the force of gravity.

If we use the kinematic equation

vf² = vi² +2as

and realize that the final vertical velocity is zero

and the initial vertical velocity is vsinθ

where θ is the angle of cast above the horizon

0 = vsin25 + 2(-9.8)h

h = 0.423v / 19.6

h = 0.02156v

so the missing potential heights and the associated answer velocities are

v = 19 m/s...h = 0.410 m

v = 8.3 m/s...h = 0.179 m

v = 6.9 m/s...h = 0.149 m

v = 8.4 m/s...h = 0.181 m

choose the one that fits the question

or use the method to find the correct velocity based on the actual height reference frame.
