Peripheral membrane proteins may be defined as the proteins  that are present on the periphery of the plasma membrane. These proteins play an important role in the transfer of the specific molecules.

Different peripheral membrane proteins that are associated with the plasma membrane are spectrin, actin, protein Kinase C and fibrous proteins. Protein Kinase C play important role in signal transduction and actin and spectrin helps in the attachment of the substances with matrix.
