Two families went to a baseball game. The first family bought 5 pretzels and 4 sodas, which totaled $30. The second family bough
Alinara [238K]

The cost of one soda bought by both families is $5.

What is the total cost of shopping for each family?

The cost of purchase is the sum of number of items bought and their prices for each family.

Let us assume that x is for number of pretzels bought and y is for number of sodas bought, as a result, the total amount spent by each family and number of items bought are expressed thus:

5x+4y=30.....................(equation 1)

4x+5x=33 .....................(equation 2)

let us multiply equation 1 by 5

let us multiply equation 2 by 4

5*(5x+4y=30)25x+20x=150........(equation 3)

4*(4x+5x=33)16x+20x=132..........(equation 4)

equation 3 minus equation 4 is:

9x=18

x=18/9

x=2

price of pretzels is $2.00

Substitute for x in equation:

24x+5y=33(4*2)+5y=33

8+5y=33

5y=33-8

5y=25

y=25/5

y=5

price of one soda=$5

1. Point V is somewhere on the line segment UW. If UV = 8 then find the length of VW.
alekssr [168]

Answer:

VW = 3

Step-by-step explanation:

From the diagram, we know that UW = 11.

We also know that UV + VW = UW, because UW is the length of the whole segment.

Using substitution (knowing 2 of the line segments), we find that 8 + VW = 11.

If we subtract 8 from both sides using inverse operations, we find that VW = 3, which is the answer.

Hope this helps!
