Harriet Tubman and Abraham Lincoln I'd say were two of the biggest key figures, Tubman created an underground railroad and helped free over 70 slaves. Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president was the one who ended slavery.

Well, Georgia's founder James Oglethorpe was against slavery and, before going bankrupt, outlawed slavery. This was overruled once he lost his money. Also there's things like the middle passage, which were run by many people. Christopher Columbus was responsible (partly) for the kidnapping of Taino Indians, who were then sold as slaves.
