How do historical realities influence Alan Paton's Cry, the Beloved Country
kari74 [83]

Answer: Crime was common in Johannesburg in the 1940s , and this is reflected in the novel when Kumalo is robbed when he first arrives in the city

Explanation:

The story of Cry, the Beloved Country (1948) takes place in middle 1940's, at the beginning of Apartheid, a system in South Africa characterized by extreme racial discrimination against black people. Back then, black people lived in fear, and it was a difficult time to live in Johannesburg. The crime rate was also high, which is seen when Kumalo is robbed at the beginning of the novel, when he arrives to the city.

Anyone familiar with Daughter of Invention story? English help please. Thank you! It has to do with the story "Daughter of inven
Eddi Din [679]

Answer:

The two statements which describe the main themes of the story are:

A. The freedom to express oneself is valued by many, but some people discourage it and fear its consequences.

D. Creativity and creation can bring great joy.

Explanation:

"Daughter of Invention" is a short story by J.ulia Alvarez. The narrator is a girl who has been chosen to give a speech in front of her teachers and classmates. The creation of the speech brings her great joy. She fills inspired, energized by the words she has chosen and the message she is going to convey. She speaks of independence, of students surpassing their masters.

Her father, upon reading the speech, has an extreme reaction. He tears it to pieces and tells her she is being insubordinate. The narrator's father has lived through a dictatorship. He knows very well the consequences of speaking one's mind - he has lost loved ones because of that. Thus, he discourages freedom of speech, afraid of the consequences it may bring.

Note: I had to type J.ulia with a period because otherwise Brainly won't let me post this answer. For some reason, certain words are interpreted as curse words or as links.
