Gain rights for the white Anglos--Americans allowed to settle in the Texas region had been rioting against Mexican controls and eventually choose to break free. 

Mexican government allowed white Americans to access lands and create the Texas region. They were expected to be Catholic and follow Mexican laws. Under the leadership of Stephen Austin more whites came from America until eventually outnumbering the Mexican. Riots began between the two groups and when the Mexican government tried to end the rebellion, white Texans declared independence. <span />
